Bun 1.3: Windows production-ready, single-file executables, debugger

Bun 1.3 (Oct 2025) is the biggest Bun release: official Windows support, bun build --compile executables, built-in Chrome DevTools debugging, and continued Node compatibility gains.

Bun 1.3

As of: 2025-10 (1.3.x line), verified 2026-09

Highlights

  • Windows is production-supported — not a tier-2 port; CI matrices can drop the "linux-only" carve-out.
  • bun build --compile — single-file executables for all three OSes, cross-compilation flags; the easy path for distributing CLIs (agents shipping tools love this).
  • Built-in debugger — Chrome DevTools protocol; breakpoints in TS without nodemon wrappers.
  • The 1.x line overall: native bun shell, bunfs virtual FS, fast transpiler/cache, node:test runner support, npm compat above 95% on common ecosystems.

Adoption notes

Bun is a credible Node replacement for new services and scripts. Watch: native addons with node-gyp expectations, and deployment targets — Docker images for bun are first-class. For libraries, keep package.json CJS/ESM dual publishing so Node consumers are unaffected.
