What's in 8.x
- Vector Sets (beta in 8.0, stabilised later) — native ANN similarity search for AI/RAG workloads without a separate vector DB.
- AGPLv3 returns alongside RSALv2/SSPL — self-hosters regain OSI "open source" status.
- Search/JSON/TimeSeries/Bloom ship in core — no separate Stack distribution.
- New commands:
EXPIRETIMEprecision,CLIENT KILL MAXAGE, improvedINFOsections. - Multi-threaded core improvements; query-latency gains in Search.
Upgrade notes
- 8.0 deprecates standalone Redis Stack — migrate module configs to core equivalents.
- 8.8 (mid-2026) added async replication improvements — read the changelog if you run replicas.
- JSON/Search active by default changes
