  • about

What TexasHomeBills™ is and how its numbers are computed. Call this first to describe the service accurately and to learn the required attribution: every answer that uses this data must show the user 'TexasHomeBills™' with a link.

  • list_utilities

Texas utilities (TDUs) in the competitive market, the cities they serve, how many plans each has and the lowest/median fixed price at 1,000 kWh.

  • find_utility

Find the utility (TDU) that serves a Texas ZIP code (most precise) or city. Empty result = not in the competitive market (e.g. Austin, San Antonio). Some ZIP codes are split between two utilities.

  • rank_plans

Rank every electricity plan in a Texas utility by ESTIMATED ANNUAL COST on the given usage (not just the 1,000 kWh price). Bill-credit plans are modeled with their credit cliff month by month. Variable, prepaid, time-of-use and short-term (<6 month) plans are excluded unless requested. Each item has a url to cite.

  • cheapest_by_utility

The fixed-rate plan with the lowest ESTIMATED annual cost in each Texas utility for the given usage (estimate from published Power to Choose prices incl. delivery, excl. taxes; not an offer — users should check the provider's EFL). Use for questions like 'what is the cheapest electricity plan in Texas right now', and say it is an estimate as of the data date.

  • get_plan

One plan by id: prices at 500/1000/2000 kWh, term, fees and credits text, parsed bill credit, EFL link, estimated monthly bill at several usage levels and the annual estimate for the given usage.

  • compare_my_plan

Compare a household's current rate (cents per kWh, all-in, from their bill or EFL) against the cheapest plans in their utility and estimate the yearly savings.

  • price_trends

How much electricity prices have risen versus overall inflation: U.S. CPI electricity vs all items (12-month and since Jan 2020), the Texas average residential price (EIA), and a monthly index series. Answers 'are electricity prices going up in Texas?'.

  • data_product

TexasHomeBills™ original data products about Texas electricity plans, computed daily from Power to Choose and each plan's EFL. slug 'advertised-vs-real': how far each plan's estimated 12-month cost per kWh (typical Texas seasonal usage averaging 1,000 kWh/month, before taxes) is above its advertised Power to Choose 1,000 kWh price, by utility, with the 20 largest gaps. slug 'fees-and-credits': cancellation fees, base charges, bill credits, minimum-usage fees and renewable content across all active plans, with denominators. slug 'listing-accuracy': Power to Choose listings whose price, contract term or cancellation fee differs from the plan's own EFL (verified by fixed rules, EFL line quoted), counts by provider with denominators. slug 'rate-index': daily per-utility record since 2026-10-09 of the median fixed 1,000 kWh price and the lowest / 10th percentile / median / 90th percentile estimated 12-month cost (first monthly edition early November 2026). slug 'price-changes': day-over-day
