Tools (19)

  • find_drt_bench

Finds the Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) bench or benches for an Indian city or state, with each bench’s address from the official DRT registry and the Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT) that hears its appeals. Use for questions such as which DRT a city falls under, where a DRT sits, or which DRAT hears appeals from a given DRT. With no city or state it lists every seat grouped by DRAT.

  • calculate_tribunal_fee

Calculates the court fee prescribed for a DRT original application, a SARFAESI Section 17 securitisation application, or a DRAT appeal, from the amount of debt, citing the rule that prescribes it. For a DRAT appeal it also states the appeal period and the statutory pre-deposit. Use when someone asks what it costs to file before the DRT or DRAT.

  • sarfaesi_timeline

Lists the statutory periods of the SARFAESI Act, 2002 — Section 13(2) (demand notice — time to discharge liability); Section 13(3A) (creditor’s reply to the borrower’s representation); Section 14 (second proviso) (district magistrate / cmm to pass a possession order); Section 17(1) (securitisation application to the drt); Section 17(5) (drt to dispose of the securitisation application); Section 18(1) (appeal to the drat) — with the enacted wording, who each period binds and what follows when it ends. Optionally computes the end date from a start date. Use for SARFAESI deadline and limitation questions.

  • lookup_bare_act_section

Returns a section of an Indian Act from a curated dataset — the section text as held in the firm’s annotated bare-acts library (reproduced from the enacted Act), a plain-English explanation, a practitioner note, the penalty, the corresponding old- or new-code section and the amendment history, where recorded. Covers 20 Acts (Constitution, BNS 2023, BNSS 2023, IPC 1860, CrPC 1973, SARFAESI Act 2002, NI Act 1881, Contract Act 1872, Companies Act 2013, IBC 2016, CPC 1908, CPA 2019, RERA 2016, TPA 1882, Arbitration Act 1996, BSA 2023, IT Act 2000, RTI Act 2005, Limitation Act 1963, Specific Relief Act 1963); for the BNS and BNSS, every section's enacted heading is also available. Use when a user cites or asks about a specific section or article.

  • search_bare_acts

Keyword search across the sections of the Indian Acts in this dataset — titles, keywords, the library’s section text and plain-English explanations — and across every enacted section heading of the BNS and BNSS. Returns the closest-matching sections with a one-line summary and a link. Use when the user describes a topic but does not know the Act or section number.

  • map_old_code_section

Maps a section of a repealed criminal law — the Indian Penal Code 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 or the Indian Evidence Act 1872 — to its counterpart in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita or Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023, with the transitional rule. Use for IPC-to-BNS, CrPC-to-BNSS and Evidence Act-to-BSA conversion questions (e.g. "what is IPC 420 in the BNS?").

  • find_rbi_nbfc_direction

Finds the RBI Master Directions for non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) held in this dataset by topic, reference number or category, with the RBI reference, date, summary and links to the page and the PDF. Use for NBFC regulatory-compliance questions, e.g. which direction governs fair practices, KYC, provisioning or registration.

  • define_legal_term

Defines an Indian legal term from a curated glossary of 111 terms (Banking, Debt Recovery, Civil Procedure, Insolvency, Property Law, Criminal Law, Constitutional, Data Protection) — the definition, an example, the statutory reference, a note on how it works in practice, and related terms. Use when the user asks what a legal term or abbreviation means, e.g. NPA, CIRP, Recovery Certificate, Garnishee Order.

  • posh_compliance_check

Checks an employer against seven questions under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 — constitution of the Internal Committee in writing, its composition, a committee at every office, training, display, and annual reporting — and lists each gap with the provision concerned and the penalty provision. Use when an employer asks whether its POSH compliance is in order.

  • screen_recovery_matter

Screens a debt-recovery matter from the creditor’s side using its basic facts — amount, security, instrument, debtor type, place and stage — and sets out which recovery routes the facts point to (SARFAESI enforcement, a DRT original application, an IBC application, a cheque-dishonour complaint), the DRT bench and DRAT for the place, the statutory periods relevant at the current stage, and whether the matter meets the minimum claim size for engagement. Use when a lender, company or individual wants a first view of the options for recovering a debt.

  • deadline_watch

Computes the due date of a statutory period for each of up to 50 recovery accounts, from an event and its date — the SARFAESI Act periods, the DRAT appeal period, and the cheque-dishonour notice, payment and complaint periods under the Negotiable Instruments Act — and returns them sorted by due date, flagged when due within 7 or 14 days. Use to build or check a deadline list across several accounts.

  • consultation_payment_details

Returns the fee for a scheduled consultation with the firm, what it covers, the bank account and UPI QR for paying it from the user’s own banking app, and the booking steps. Read-only; makes no payment.

  • book_consultation

Records a consultation booking after the user has paid the fee from their own bank app: name, phone, matter type, summary, the payment reference (UTR), and a preferred date and slot. Emails the booking to the firm (legal@unifiedchambers.com, with a copy to the Senior Partner’s mailbox) and an acknowledgement to the user. Does not make or verify any payment.

  • send_matter_enquiry

Sends a matter enquiry to the firm by email (legal@unifiedchambers.com, with a copy to the Senior Partner’s mailbox) when the matter is within the firm’s engagement range: organisation, contact, amount in dispute, matter type and a summary. Returns the acceptance result; matters below the range, and requests by advocates for empanelment, are declined with the reason and nothing is sent.

  • list_my_matters

Lists the matters on the panel matter register for the signed-in user's institution — forum, bench, case number, stage, next hearing, last update and claim amount — soonest hearing first. Filters by status: active (the default), closed or all. Use for an overview of the institution's matters with its panel counsel.

  • get_matter_status

Returns the full register entry for one of the institution's matters, identified by its matter ID, with the deadlines recorded for it. Use after list_my_matters to examine a single account.

  • upcoming_hearings

Lists hearings in the institution's active matters that fall within the next N days (1–90, default 30), soonest first, with forum, bench, case number and stage.

  • panel_deadline_tracker

Lists open deadlines in the institution's matters due within the next N days (1–90, default 30), with the provision each runs under, flagging those due within 7 days. Open items whose due date passed within the same number of days are listed separately.

  • brief_new_matter

Sends a new recovery account to the institution's panel counsel as a written brief — borrower, claim amount, security position, preferred forum, a summary of up to 1,200 characters and the documents available. The brief is emailed to the firm (legal@unifiedchambers.com, with a copy to the Senior Partner’s mailbox), entered in the firm’s panel register where one is kept, and an acknowledgement is emailed to the signed-in address. Use when the institution wants to instruct its panel counsel on a new account.
